Hippana.Maleta are Jonas Schiffauer (DE) and Alex Allison (IE). Jonas Schiffauer is a juggler and performer and lives in Cologne. With his ensemble Hippana Theatre he has already realised various projects with different European partners. Alex Allison is an Irish juggler/performer/circus author and founder of the Maleta Company. He currently lives in Brussels. His path into the world of circus led to a degree in Celtic Studies.
In 2012, the two jugglers crossed paths at a workshop in Ibiza. Since then, they have met again and again, often by chance, at workshops, congresses and festivals. Gradually, a shared vision of circus, poetry and performance grew, which eventually culminated in the idea of founding the joint label Hippana.Maleta and performing a piece together in 2018.
The first joint production, TUNNEL, premiered in 2019 and has since been shown at many festivals in Germany, Austria, Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Belgium, Spain, Romania, the Netherlands and even Puerto Rico, for example at.tension in Lärz, Just for Fun in Darmstadt and the Perspectives Festival in Saarbrücken. Performances at the TAC Festival in Valladolid, Spain, were a particular highlight. There, TUNNEL 2022 was honoured with the Emilio Zapatero Award for the best circus performance. "We transform ordinary places in public spaces with our acrobatics," says Alex. "That's what street art is all about."
2021 sees the world premiere of RUNNERS: together with Moisés Mas García on stage, with contemporary ball juggling, physical comedy and live music, the trio embarks on a journey to the origins of human existence - fuelled by relentless treadmills. Initially they toured on stages and in tents, and since 2022 RUNNERS has also been on the road as street theatre.
The foundation of Hippana.Maleta is friendship. The artists explore the highs and lows of their relationships with each other and share their struggles, fears and triumphs. The results are theatre pieces in which they explore, interpret and reflect on aspects of human existence.
Hippana.Maleta is based in Cologne.
Premiere November 15 +16, 2024 - Studiobühne Köln
"Inside Juggling” focuses on the relationship between people and their media image: it is about authenticity, changing perspectives, staging and self-optimization in today's world. With clubs, camera and live projection, Dutch circus artist Liza van Brakel twists her and our perceptions of reality. She transports the audience into a world of colorful images and visual manipulations, full of unexpected moments and choreographic finesse.
"Inside juggling" celebrates its first performances in the margin of the European weekend for Contemporary circus Zeit für Zirkus or La Nuit du Cirque
